Bec Smith is a Melbourne-based artist whose work intricately weaves together the building blocks of geometry with profound insights into human dynamics. Since secondary school, she has nurtured an enduring passion for art and design, developing a unique visual language defined by carefully considering position, form, juxtaposing colourways and intention in paintings and sculptural compositions. Her artistic output is a line of inquiry that dives deep into the complexities of human existence and interaction; themes such as time, cause and effect, and duality resonate throughout her creations.

Drawing on her experience as a UX Designer, Bec employs her understanding of people’s thoughts, emotions, and circumstances to inform her artistic process, translating these insights into intuitive digital experiences and visual artistry. Her paintings and sculptures embody both actual and idealised situations, capturing the essence of varied exchanges, emotions, and environments. In a world where people catalogue experiences in diverse ways, Smith’s practice acts as a visual metric, a map that invites viewers to explore and reflect on multifaceted impressions and human connections. Ultimately, her work offers a unique perspective on the fleeting moments that shape our lives, inviting engagement and contemplation of the rich tapestry of human experience.

Bec’s work has appeared in numerous publications and has been exhibited widely throughout Australia in group and solo exhibitions.
