Colour becomes a language of expression: from the evocation of joy and nostalgia to immersive light installations that blur the boundaries of perception, these works explore the dynamic interplay between our infinite yet intimate experience of colour.
Inspired by Paul Cezanne’s words, "We live in a rainbow of chaos," this exhibition is a transformative journey into the beautiful pandemonium that radiates from art anchored by colour, light, and form.
Akin to stepping through a portal into a world lit by a spectrum of vibrant hues, our summer show brings together a line-up of artists whose work explores the emotional, narrative, and atmospheric qualities of works freighted in colour.

About the Artists:
Vanessa Ferriggi’s use of colour is immediate and dazzling. Through a combination of acrylic, oil stick, impasto and collage, she renders extravagant botanical expressions that carry the vital energy of flowers and fresh growth to create expressive, free-spirited compositions defined by a sense of "Joie de Vivre”: "Once purely abstract, the flowers emerged and they now come liberally. Botanical, loose abstracts are my joy, the flowers representing freedom, femininity and a return to a whimsical, child-like time. The combination of soft versus bold, dark versus light, portrays the way I want to be seen and how I feel I fit in the world."
Matthew Johnson produces painterly abstractions of nature’s striking pattern language, channelling the infinitely expressive potential of light and colour to capture nature’s unrivalled kaleidoscope. Employing aqueous hues and layered geometries to evoke the dynamic, atmospheric qualities of marine environments and natural patterns, he creates mesmerising works that oscillate between the real and the abstract: "Light travels through the vacuum of space across time itself. Our sun, our solar system, is our primary existence. Once light filtrates our atmosphere, particle form and kinetic material oscillates light. Cézanne’s comment about “a rainbow of chaos” reflects the rarity of our existence on this unique sphere we call planet Earth. The whole Earth is moving, and everything on Earth is moving with all of time. This remains unique in the universe, as far as humankind knows. As artists, we are attuned to this phenomenon through an acute visual sensibility and perception. We are here to celebrate and share this rare sense of acuity that belongs to everyone. Our optimism and wonderment about this gift called Earth outweigh the conflicts and misdemeanours of ourselves. My artwork contributions for this exhibition are a small offering to the greater whole."
Ildiko Kovacs paints in a way that distils mark-making to striking painterly expressions awash with colour. Kovacs’ pendulously hypnotic pathways glide in sweeping free-form exuberance across the picture plane, and her works are unified by an energy that lies upon the canvas like a silent force field. Lines and curves embody a mercurial force that registers with viewers as a sensorial rhapsody of electrifying colour.
Max Patté’s devotion to the properties of light brings an entirely new level of engagement with colour and light’s effect on it. His Infinity Lightworks tap directly into the viewer's mood and emotions, while his mastery of artistic principles and constant exploration of new technological developments cultivate pieces that evoke a meditative and transcendent experience.
Phoebe Rolleston applies colour through bold hues and dynamic brushstrokes, using an intuitive process to create layered, textural works. Anchored by an undulating topography of swirls, sweeps and lines that seem to dance with and around one another, Phoebe’s paintings rely on a tangible sense of unity and harmony to evoke a rich emotional narrative connected to her surroundings: "Green Is the Color by Pink Floyd. I’ve always loved this song and the way in which colour is weaved through each beautiful description, the story being told through a lens of light and colour. Colour and its influence on our lives is constant, it fills our language, sways our moods and is one of our biggest tools of expression. Colours swell with meaning and emotion, they attach themselves to feelings. The relationship between different colours and how they interact to create meaning has always been my greatest inspiration.
Heavy hung the canopy of blue / Shade my eyes and I can see you / White is the light that shines through the dress that you woreShe lay in the shadow of the wave / Hazy were the visions of her playing / Sunlight on her eyes, but / Moonshine beat her blind every time
Green is the color of her kind / Quickness of the eye deceives the mind / Envy is the bond between the hopeful and the damned, damned
- Pink Floyd
Alex Slattery handles colour with a deep, tactile understanding. He crafts his own paints to create works that blend tender, sparing application with a sense of fluidity. A colour story of blues and ochres, marigold and eucalyptus echo with the tones of the Australian landscape, capturing the nostalgic and emotive nuances of human experience and coastal life: "Colour and light saturate the world with beauty. It’s the most vivid sense most of us experience, existing at the perplexing crux of the physical world and our conscious selves. It is the duty of artists to dedicate our lives pursuing the ever-continuing exploration of its potential.”
Bec Smith’s formal design background comes into play in her approach to colour as a building block to creation alongside form and arrangement. Her work as a UX Designer informs her art practice, which gives artistic expression to the mapping of people’s thoughts, emotions and circumstances. In capturing the dynamics of human interactions, colour becomes the mode by which these are differentiated and instilled with beauty: "Excited to share some new work at Kelli Lundberg Art for the first time, where this summer show’s vibrant energy and the language of colour will come to life. Each piece I’ve made captures a moment - floating between texture and shape, a pop radiance, casting subtle shadows via form."
Neil Williams explores colour in his practice with a layered approach. He uses muted, atmospheric tones to evoke the emotional landscapes of historical narratives, capturing the interplay between past and present through his evocative depictions of enduring buildings, expansive vistas and dominant skies: "These paintings depict back beach scenes from Flinders, featuring a marine sanctuary known as Mushroom Reef. The yellow markers represent the sanctuary’s outer boundary. I was particularly drawn to these markers as they evoke the historical use of the yellow flag, which signaled quarantine. For example, yellow flags were used to mark the land boundaries of areas where infected individuals could go at the quarantine station at Point Nepean. The graphical element and vibrant pop of yellow add a contrast to the composition. The subdued colour palette enhances a sense of nostalgic timelessness, creating a calm and reflective atmosphere."
