Still(life): Group Show

10 April - 18 May 2025

Featuring works by:

Lorraine Biggs | John Gibson | Thornton Walker

Opening CelebrationSaturday 12 April, 1–3 PM

A stillness rests within the works of Lorraine Biggs, John Gibson, and Thornton Walker - a stillness with clarity, levity, and sentience as its polestars, coaxed further into being by the absence of the superfluous.

Against a background of sea, stars and clouds, Biggs’ ethereal, suspended subjects pronounce their stillness through the unspoken understanding of the elemental flux that exists all around in the ebb and flow of nature’s eternal rhythms. Gibson’s works trust in the laws of gravity and their universality to imply movement where none exists. His meticulous wood collages create luminous reflections, evoking 17th-century still-life minimalism. Walker’s meditative seascapes are silent depictions of nature cresting and peaking, while his arrangements are imbued with a spacelessness that affirms the abundance of life within the classicism of the still-life genre.

The gentle conversation between artworks is often intangible; engagement is guided by the silken thread that binds each despite their clear stylistic distinctions. This silvered gossamer reaches between the moments captured to articulate a composed restfulness that lands with affecting calm.
